Hey, I’m Shelby

My journey as a professional began when I was 18 years old. I had purchased my dream dog, a Weimaraner. He turned out to be reactive towards people, I knew he needed a lot of work to overcome these obstacles. The joy I felt working with him, and seeing him thrive made me realize that working with dogs was my calling.

I started my journey by becoming a dog training apprentice. I knew to get the full scope of dog behavior I needed to experience dogs in a variety of settings. So I decided to expand my skillset, learning to groom dogs. I knew I couldn’t stop there, so I also spent time in the pet boarding and daycare industry. These positions allowed me to observe how today’s average dog feels about these regular life experiences. By observing behavior I was able to create a variety of tools to help manage and support an anxious or fearful dog. What I also found was that even really confident dogs struggled in many of these environments and managing their emotional wellbeing in those spaces made a huge difference.

With all of my knowledge and experience gained from working in multiple dog professions, I decided to start Mountain View Dogs LLC. Running my own business gave me the freedom to create a program that helps educate families on living with a challenging dog, while supporting and growing behavior to create harmony in the home again.

I am a firm believer in education and continuing to learn. Right now, I am a KPA-CTP, and Canine Good Citizen “CGC” Evaluator. I earned my KPA-CTP through Karen Pryor Academy with the partnership of my youngest Weimaraner Rowan. I also hold an active membership in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers commonly referred to as APDT. My goal for my Education is to never stop learning, the industry is constantly changing so shall our methods and practices.

I apply positive reinforcement techniques. By using force-free methods, dogs are able to communicate their needs, enabling us to tackle behavioral issues at their root. Our strategies are backed by scientific research on animal behavior and learning. Reinforcement influences both desirable and undesirable behaviors. By implementing strategic reinforcement, we can clearly convey to our dogs which behaviors we want to encourage and which ones we wish to fade.

My Mission is to educate Pet Parents Everywhere on supporting and managing the “soft” or “sensitive” dog, to share the wells of knowledge I have acquired through my experiences on how to keep your dog safe, physically and emotionally. My goal is to share everything I know and will continue to learn on creating harmony and balance in you and your dog’s lives. My Mission is to help people, help their dogs’.

Lots of Love

Shelby
